May 5th is International Print Day!

Hello print enthusiasts!

Did you know that May 5th is International Print Day in May?  An annual celebration of printmaking where printmakers across the globe connect through printmaking.  To participate printmakers simply make a print or prints on that day knowing that a bunch of us are doing the same!

The Ottawa-Gatineua Printmakers Connective is planning on heading to the studio May 5th with their plates in hand to create a large collaborative print or prints (anything can happen!).  Adding some mono printing magic to tie it all together!

We hope that you will be able to create a print, where ever you are, on May 5th to join in this worldwide activity. Happy printmaking!

Stay tuned for photos!

Year of the Dragon International Print Exchange in Ottawa

Once again, we hosted the International Chinese Zodiac Print Exchange in Ottawa.   This was the year of the dragon.  Dragon prints from around the world were up for exchange.  We had a fun evening celebrating this tradition, eyeing which prints we really wanted to get! Here are some photos from the night.  Thank-you Rob Hinchley, for facilitating the process.

Printmaker wins a draw!

We would like to announce that Debra won a draw at the Ron Kolbus Centre’s Annual Winter Garden Party!  What did she get?  A fantastic first aid kit, which she was happy to donate to the print studio.  Way to go Debra!

Here is Debra showing off her prize at Maya Hum's studio (just across from the Ron Kolbus Centre).

Safety is important. This will greatly improve our first aid supplies at the print studio!

Print studio saved. Workshops already on the go!

This year a group of Ottawa & Gatineau print-makers got together to keep an amazing print studio running in Ottawa.  The space located in Ottawa’s Nepean Creative Arts Centre, was slated to be emptied of its amazing presses, which were going to go back into storage.

Thankfully, a number of print-makers jumped in to save the print studio and keep the presses in use!

This month local print-maker, Debra James Percival, ran two copper etch workshops to educate artists about the space as well as greener alternatives to printmaking.  These workshops were focused on copper etching. The studio is Green and is only for non-toxic printmaking.  Each workshop had a terrific turnout and a number of amazing prints were created.

Congratulations on keeping the studio running!

Here are some photos of the studio in use!

Year of the Dragon Print Show in Ottawa

Year of the Dragon

Prints inspired by the Chinese zodiac

Ottawa School of Art February 6 – March 5, 2012

As mentioned in the previous post, we are continuing our tradition of participating in Toronto’s PROOF Studio Gallery’s international print exhibition and exchange inspired by each year’s Chinese Zodiac symbol.  This year is the 11th International Print Exhibition and Exchange celebrating the Year of the Dragon.

We have organized to have editions of the prints submitted by Ottawa printmakers showcased in Ottawa as well at the Ottawa School of Art display cases (35 George Street, in the Byward market area). Our display will be up until March 5, 2012.  Here are some pictures, but it is definitely worthwhile to come see the wide array of hand pulled prints in various printmaking techniques in person!

For more information or to purchase one of the prints shown, please email the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective: ottawaprintmakers@gmail.com
