Prints inspired by the Chinese zodiac

Ottawa School of Art February 6 – March 5, 2012

As mentioned in the previous post, we are continuing our tradition of participating in Toronto’s PROOF Studio Gallery’s international print exhibition and exchange inspired by each year’s Chinese Zodiac symbol.  This year is the 11th International Print Exhibition and Exchange celebrating the Year of the Dragon.

We have organized to have editions of the prints submitted by Ottawa printmakers showcased in Ottawa as well at the Ottawa School of Art display cases (35 George Street, in the Byward market area). Our display will be up until March 5, 2012.  Here are some pictures, but it is definitely worthwhile to come see the wide array of hand pulled prints in various printmaking techniques in person!

11th International Print Exhibition and Exchange

Celebrating The Chinese New Year

Year of the DRAGON 2012

Another year has passed and it is time to welcome 2012!  It has become a tradition for many printmakers in our group to participate in an annual international print exhibition and exchange celebrating its corresponding Chinese New Year Zodiac sign!

Toronto’s PROOF Studio Gallery hosts this annual event.  This year will be the year of the dragon –  ”an opportunity for printmakers from anywhere in the world to connect with each other by exhibiting their print interpretation of the zodiac sign of the DRAGON for the Chinese New Year 2012. In previous years artists from Switzerland, Australia, India, Guatemala, China, Mexico, Germany, Japan, Ireland, Scotland, Hong Kong, the United States and Canada have participated in this exhibition and print exchange. Each artist creates a limited edition print using a traditional print technique such as etching, wood block, linoblock, embossing, lithographs, relief, silkscreen or mixed print media inspired in some way by the dragon. As always, the Year of the Dragon is both an exchange and a series of exhibitions. The first print is kept and used for the exhibition. The other prints are offered for sale or used for the exchange. For the exchange, you receive back other artists’ work and other artists get your prints.”

PROOF Studio Gallery is located in Toronto’s historic Distillery District: Studio 104, Case Goods Warehouse, Bldg. 74, 55 Mill Street.

Exhibition runs from January 26 – February 12, 2012

Their opening is on Saturday, January 28th from 2 – 5pm

Anniversary Show Opening!

We had an excellent turnout for our one year Anniversary show at the Orange Art Gallery.  Thank-you everyone for your support and for coming out!  If you were unable to attend, our exhibit will be on display until the 20th of November.

Our Anniversary Show is Coming up Soon!

We are excited to announce that we will be  having  our first year anniversary show next month!

A lot of hard work and planning went into this exhibit and we hope you can join us on our Opening Reception on Thursday, November 10th, from 6 – 10 pm at Orange Art Gallery (233 Armstrong  Street).

This is a great opportunity to come out and mingle with the artists, view or buy art, and drink some wine!  Here is our promotional card (click to enlarge):

Summer Mosaic Opening Night!

Last night we had our first public exhibition as a group!  It was very exciting and the turn out was great!  (Congratulations to those who sold some pieces already!)

A big thank-you to everyone who came and helped to put on a great show and a special thanks to Britannia Gallery!  Our show will be up until September 6th.

Print Exchange Pics

Last Wednesday we had an amazing turn out for this years International Year of Rabbit Print Exchange in Ottawa. There were prints from around the world providing an exciting exchange. Not to mention we had a great spread of food for the event including a delicious cake!

A special thanks to Rob Hinchley and Paule Fournier for guiding the exchange process, Toronto’s Proof Studio Gallery (who started it all), and of course the participation artists!

Year of the Rabbit Print Exchange at OSA

Rabbits have taken over all 3 glass displays opposite the elevator at OSA and they look fabulous!
Make sure to check them out and let everyone know to come and see them.
They’re up until our potluck and exchange on April 13.
